The Roastery at Talbot Yard
Talbot Yard was developed to provide stabling and carriage housing to the nearby Grade II* listed Talbot Hotel, established by the Wentworth family in the mid-18th Century. As Malton's first private hotel, the Talbot Hotel became a social focal point for members of the town's horse-breeding and racing community. ROOST is based in Unit 6 which was the former carriage house for the hotel.
In the late 20th Century it had fallen into disuse and disrepair until works began in 2011 to make the buildings safe. The future of the buildings as food production units was decided by the progressive Fitzwilliam Estate in 2012. The light industrial units would retain all their historic fabric.
There are now 6 artisan food production units at Talbot Yard, adding to the existing ‘Made in Malton’ initiative. The aim of the initiative is to join artisan food producers together to spread Malton’s food reputation beyond the region.
ROOST has a purpose built coffee bar open to the public. Come and enjoy a coffee from our superior Rocket Espresso Milano espresso machine or enjoy a pour over filter in our comfortable bar. You could also leave with a retail bag of beans of the coffee you have just enjoyed. We will grind your beans on site if required.
