The Roastery

THE ROASTERY Located at Malton Enterprise Park

ROOST have moved to 100% electric roasting and use of renewable energy with solar panels. Our new 15kg and 6kg electric roasters from Giesen utilise state of the art electric technology and Giesen manufacturing expertise to create the W15E, the largest electric drum roaster on the market, and the W6E. This sets a new standard for efficiency and sustainability in coffee roasting.

By using only electric roasters and with our solar energy we will be reducing emissions by up to 90% on a traditional gas roaster and reducing our energy use by using zero gas and approx. 50% less electricity across the whole site.

The Giesen W15E uses a combination of hot air and infrared panels. The W6E utilises the hot air gun. These are cleaner and more efficient than traditional fossil fuel burners. Electric roasters produce low emissions, including less carbon monoxide (CO), less carbon dioxide (CO2), and less nitrogen oxides (NOx) which are harmful gases released during the combustion of fossil fuels.

We also use Giesen Profiler roast profile software for consistency across all batches. For more information, click here.

The roast of each batch takes an average of 10-13 minutes and a ROOST original roast profile is followed for each green bean batch, depending on origin, varietals, altitude grown and post- harvest process.

ROOST also sample roast on a neat little 100g SANDBOX Smart roaster. This lets us experiment with new coffees and to identify profiles for larger batches.

SOURCING

We source and buy only speciality coffee from ethical and reputable UK speciality coffee importers. Our foremost supplier is DR WAKEFIELD, who have been importing speciality coffee into the UK since 1970. They have long term relationships with farmers from across all coffee growing regions of the world and ensure fair pay and sustainability. We also use other independent speciality coffee importers who can specialise in a particular region of the world. These include Falcon Coffee, Covoya, Caravela, Café Imports, Indochina and Raw Material.

At ROOST we bring in coffee that highlights all of the regions’ speciality coffee and diversity of Arabica, through their differing varietals, soils, altitudes and processing. At any one time we will stock three blends, two chemical free Swiss Water Decaf and twelve single origin coffees from across the globe.

ROASTING

Espresso blends are roasted for espresso, higher and slower to caramelize, increase body and decrease acidity. Single origins are omni-roasted to suit all brew methods. We roast every week, five days per week to ensure beans are always fresh.
